Southwest Art

My painting "Hotel Room" was selected for publication in the April issue of Southwest Art Magazine! The column is called "Art Values" and it features paintings of interior scenes. In other news, I'm preparing for a solo show at the Wally Workman Gallery in September. The show will feature recent cityscapes and urban scenes.

Thank you! That was a textbook example of a lucky break-they happened to see it on my gallery's website and it fit with their article.

It's a beauty, many congrats! I remember this painting from before and I think I commented it reminds me so much of Hopper's painting of the cinema (or was it theatre) usherette waiting quietly in the wings for the performance to break. Love it's quietness and sense of expectation.

Thank you, Sheila! They printed some comments I made about Hopper's work being an inspiration in the article. The painting you mention (NY Movie) is one of my favorites, too.

Congrats Leslie! It's a terrific piece, so no wonder... :)

r garriott,
That painting took a long time before I was satisfied with the way the colors related, and it also had several glazes to get the richness and depth just right. Thanks so much for your comments; it's nice to have it appreciated!

Hi Jason,
It's great to "see" you, thanks for stopping by! I am just glad the painting was bold/strong enough to catch the writer's attention, because she had a lot of wonderful paintings to choose from!

Congratulations, Leslie! This is a fine work. I like the pared-down simplicity of the design, and the way it is complemented by the rich, saturated color.

Thanks Don! That's a good observation; I definitely try to pare things down to essentials when composing a painting.

Just came across the bit in the mag today-- looks great, Leslie!

Thanks, Jason! I thought they did a nice job with the printing and was really happy with it.

I like Southwest Art Magazine. Congrats galore!

And this painting, so little said, so much suggested--realistically! I love it!

Thanks! I really appreciate that-I try not to spell everything out in a painting and let people use their imagination.
